Friction is a type of force which occurs between two objects when they move over one another. For example, consider when tire of your vehicle rolls over the road surface. With the collision between the tire and the road surface, some amount of friction is developed. This friction determines the maximum acceleration of the vehicle, and also the minimum stopping distance i.e. the braking distance. One needs to know the nature of friction for a safe driving. For safe winter driving it is also very important to install good quality friction tire on your vehicle.

With many years of study, researchers have found the unique designs of tread for friction tire that provide good traction in a wide range of weather conditions. These tread designs directs away the water from the bearing surfaces of tires on wet roads. This helps to combat the tendency of the vehicle to go into a hydroplane state- this is a state which leads a vehicle to "ski' on the surface of the road as there is a layer of water lubricant under all areas of the tire.

When due to heavy rains, there is plenty of water on the road your vehicle will hydroplane if they are running at a fast speed. Due to which the water enters between the tires and the road leaving a frictional force which causes the vehicle to skid. Friction tire is especially made for snow and rainy conditions. This tire is designed is to pass the water from under the tire wheels so that the tire remains in contact with the road and receives the desired traction to stay on the road. The ball bearings of the tire decreases friction to a large extent by making the moving surface roll instead of sliding.

It streamlines the flow of water around it so that the drag can be lessened considerably. These tires have deeper grooves which channelize the water away on wet roads so that the tire touches the road. These tires help in maintaining flexibility at colder temperatures. It deeper treads depths offers better snow on snow traction. It also offers increased traction on both snow and ice like Snow tires offer deeper tread depth and better friction in snow and ice. Zigzag sipes in these tires provides an array of biting edges that provides excellent grip in snow and ice. Their best quality rubber compound prevents the thin layer of water from below the tire so that the vehicle does not slip.
