Winter in continental type of regions is very severe and harsh. It throws the human life out of gear due to snowfall, icy slippery roads and white blanketed houses and mountains. This leads to limited activities and altered lifestyle owing to constant cold. But it is not so in Switzerland! Everything about Swiss is different and ceremonial; even the severe winters! Winters here don’t affect local life adversely; rather it gives new opportunity to invent new ways to live life to the fullest. Some winter sports played during this season are really entertaining where as some are thrilling. The locals don’t limit themselves to skiing and snowboarding, but they have invented great new sports that are equally famous globally. When one thinks of winter sports it is mainly skiing or motor sports with cars or SUV compete with their suv winter tires on. But the list of winter sport here does not require worries about mighty cars with winter tires or any special equipment. Here is a list:

a. Tobogganing: wooden sledge, child- friendly and fun- filled is how one would tag this sport. Children and adult alike enjoy this sport as they ride the sledge snow covered downhill. Adults enjoy in the toboggan run that ebbs for four miles between Preda and Bergün, in Graubünden. This slippery track drops 1,312ft in altitude and is floodlit for swift dashes after dark. It is also wonderfully picturesque! One can definitely go for another if ride is not enough. One can glimpse at the iconic Rhaetian Railway back to Preda. Similarly, La Tzoumaz in Valais is home to western Switzerland’s longest toboggan course – a six-mile proposition.

b. Cross-Country skiing: we are all aware of the vertical skiing, but this is different being a horizontal or semi- vertical one. There are as many as 28 trails that are used for this sport. People enjoy the breathtaking landscapes surrounding them while skiing on snow covered paths determined for the competition. These tracks could be as long as 26 miles.

c. Winter walking: walking is always fun. When one combines it with walking on snow- clad roads. This trail walking offers wonderful picturesque landscape views. One can combine pleasure walk with thrill. There are various versions invented over period of time like a sledge led by dogs will have an adult seated in front accompanied by six children seated at back. Some just don’t walk, they club trekking and walking on snowy mountains.

d. Snow cycling: is one of the most adventurous sports. Cycles with broad wheels are used for this purpose.

These sports are certainly innovative and very much entertaining at the same time. One should visit Switzerland once to experience them.
